Entries and Handicap
All boats must complete the entry form before participation. Entry numbers will be limited at the discretion of the committee. Whilst the organisers will not impose a ‘late entry fee’, they do appreciate early entries.
The committee ask for all the information on the entry form to
facilitate the calculation of a Crinan Classic handicap. Please supply
a CYCA and IRC handicap if your boat has one.
Entry Fees
Boats 18ft and larger £2.00/foot of the length on deck.
Boats less than 18ft, £25.00 for the festival.
Early entries would be appreciated. |

Courses
Courses are in and around Loch Crinan, Loch Craignish, Sound of Jura
and the close vicinity. As best as possible avoiding areas of strong
tidal flow. There will be separate courses for sail and motor classes
of varying length throughout the festival. Starts and finishes will
largely be in Loch Crinan immediately to the north of the Sea Lock of
the Crinan Canal. Unless otherwise stated all mark roundings of buoys and islands will be to
port. |

Sailing Instructions
Sailing Instructions will be handed out at registration, if required
before hand it can be arranged. There will be extra copies available
throughout the festival at the ‘Castle’. |
| |
|
| 9 |
Classes
Sailing Boats: Classes will be defined by the Crinan Classic handicap,
effectively larger faster boats and smaller slower boats. There will be
a separate dinghy class.
Motor Boats: Classes will be defined by LOA, number of engines, size of
horsepower and number of cylinders! Most likely, all in one class. Handicaps Every
year we are analysing the results and trying our best to create a fair
handicap, just like every other classic yacht regatta in the world. It
is a case of collecting the "correct" information. You can help us by
giving accurate information about your boat and hopefully not leaving
any blanks on the Entry Form

Berthing
Please see the British Waterways Scotland page on our "Downloads" page of the web site.. There is no guarantee
of a berth but we will do our best to accommodate as many as possible
in the basin of the canal. We ask all participants to understand that
by the nature of the canal, locking in and out is a slow process, your
patience and cooperation will be appreciated. There are only a limited
number of boats that can lock in and out and berth in the basin each
day whilst also being able to take part in all the racing. Participants
in the Crinan Classic Boat Festival are reminded that the Crinan Canal
is operational daily for transit vessels and their crews. No preference
will be given to Festival participants and all vessels are to adhere to
the instructions given by British Waterways Scotland staff at all
times. There are also a limited number of moorings available through
Crinan Boatyard. Anchoring in Loch Crinan is in sand with few
obstructions and proves to be excellent holding. |

Responsibility
A boat is entirely responsible for her own safety, whether afloat or
ashore, and nothing, whether in the Notice of Race or Sailing
Instructions or anywhere else, reduces this responsibility.
It is for the boat to decide whether she is fit to sail in the
conditions in which she will find herself. By launching or going to
sea, the boat confirms that she is fit for those conditions and her
crew is competent to sail and compete in them.
Each boat shall be insured with third party liability insurance.
Each boat is responsible to ensure that she is equipped and seaworthy
so as to be able to face conditions expected. That the safety equipment
is properly maintained, stowed, and in date and that the crew know how
to use it.
Nothing done by the organisers can reduce the responsibility of the
boat nor will it make the organisers responsible for any loss, damage,
death or personal injury, however it may have occurred, as a result of
the boat taking part in the festival. The organisers encompass everyone
helping to run the races and the event, and include the organising
authority, the race committee, the race officers and official boats.
The provision of Official Boats does not relieve the boat of her responsibilities. |
